Wire Mix 014 is for the twenty minutes between two things you are already late for. The bus that is not coming. The supermarket at six. The stretch of pavement where you decide, against all available evidence, that the evening can still be saved. Nothing here will help you move faster, and that is the point. It is an hour that argues with the tempo of the day instead of matching it.
Everything sits between 84 and 102 bpm, and almost every track hands the groove to a delay pedal rather than a drummer. Half of it started life quicker. Vera Lune's opener is a 4 a.m. sketch dropped a semitone; the Kilo Nova is an edit of Attenuation with the kick taken out entirely, which turns out to be how it always wanted to be heard. Low Ceiling sent a phone demo recorded in the same room they made their debut in, fan noise and all. We kept the fan.
