Tbilisi's Substation Club Reopens After Two-Year Silence
The Tbilisi club returns on 19 September at a reduced 380 capacity, with Barometric and DJ Provenance on the opening bill.
Substation, the Tbilisi club that has been dark since August 2024, will reopen on Saturday 19 September with a reduced capacity of 380.
Co-owner Nino Abashidze confirmed the date on Thursday, along with a rebuilt ventilation system, a second fire exit cut through the rear wall of the old boiler room, and a new soundsystem in the main space. The club closed two years ago after the building's owner began structural work that was never completed. Substation's operators bought the remainder of the lease outright in March and have been rebuilding since, largely with their own money.
The opening bill is Barometric live, DJ Provenance, and an all-night set from resident Tamar Kiknadze, who has spent the closure playing borrowed rooms across the city. Tickets go on sale on 25 August.
The absence reshaped the city. As our scene report found in June, the crowd dispersed into smaller basements and largely stayed there. Whether any of it comes back up the stairs is the open question.
